Nearly a quarter of all people over 50 suffer from varicose veins with symptoms such as leg pain, leg swelling, discoloration and even skin ulcers. The good news is that laser ablation (EVLT) offers a fast, safe and successful way to get rid of leg veins and the associated symptoms. There is no reason to live with symptoms any longer!
The physician uses numbing medicine over the skin and inserts the laser fiber into the abnormal vein. Additional numbing medicine is then placed around the laser and the laser is then used to close the nonfunctioning vein. Over time, your body reabsorbs the treated vein. Treatment of the abnormal vein restores the normal return of blood from your legs and improves the associated symptoms. Treatment usually takes about one hour depending on the number of vessels to be treated. Most patients are surprised at how easy the treatment was at the conclusion of the procedure.
Yes, most insurances cover treatment of symptomatic varicose veins.
The treated vessel typically closes with one treatment. Studies show an excellent long-term success rate (over 95%) and treatment helps to delay the formation of additional varicose veins.
Compression hose are used for the first 13-16 days after vein treatment. Complete resolution of the treated veins is expected over the next several weeks (depending on the size of the treated veins).
